Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and
how we protect it. We keep things simple and don't sell your data.
1. Who We Are
retard.dev is operated by the Retardation Foundation, a US-based organization that sells
AI-modified TI-84 calculators and provides a supporting cloud infrastructure, firmware update
service, and documentation portal. For privacy inquiries, contact us at
[email protected].
2. Information We Collect
We collect information in two ways: directly from you, and automatically when you use our site.
Information you provide:
- Order information: your name, email address, and shipping address when you
purchase a device.
- Payment information: payment is processed by our third-party payment processor
(Stripe, or via our eBay listing). We do not store your full card number, CVV, or bank details on
our servers.
- Contact & support messages: any messages you send us via email or our
contact form.
- Dashboard uploads: notes, games, and images you upload through the Dashboard UI
for syncing to your calculator.
- Discord community: if you join our Discord server, Discord's own privacy policy
governs that data.
Information collected automatically:
- Log data: our API backend may log IP addresses, request timestamps, and
general usage data for security and performance monitoring.
- Device connectivity: when your modified calculator connects to our OTA
(over-the-air) firmware update service, we may log the device identifier and firmware version to
serve correct updates. We do not store your WiFi credentials on our servers.
- Cookies: our website may use basic session cookies for cart functionality. We do
not currently use advertising or tracking cookies, though third-party services embedded on the
site (such as payment widgets) may set their own cookies.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To fulfill and ship your order.
- To communicate with you about your order, shipping, or support requests.
- To deliver firmware updates to your device over-the-air (OTA).
- To sync notes, games, and images you upload via the Dashboard to your calculator.
- To maintain the security and performance of our API and infrastructure.
- To comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for
marketing purposes.
4. Third-Party Services
We work with the following categories of third parties who may process your data on our behalf:
- Payment processors (Stripe, eBay) – handle payment transactions under their own
privacy policies and PCI-DSS compliance.
- Shipping carriers – receive your name and shipping address to deliver your
order.
- AI API providers (e.g. OpenAI) – queries you make on your calculator are routed
through our backend to these services. These providers may log queries per their own
policies.
- Cloudflare – our site is served behind Cloudflare, which may process traffic
metadata for security and DDoS protection.
- Discord – our community Discord operates under Discord's privacy policy.
5. Data Retention
We retain order and contact information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described
in this policy, and as required by applicable law (e.g. tax and accounting requirements, typically
up to 7 years). API and device logs are generally retained for 30–90 days for security monitoring
and then deleted.
6. Your Rights (California Residents – CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer
Privacy Act (CCPA):
- Right to know – you may request a list of the personal information we have
collected about you.
- Right to delete – you may request deletion of your personal data, subject to
certain legal exceptions.
- Right to opt out of sale – we do not sell personal information, so no opt-out is
required.
- Right to non-discrimination – we will not discriminate against you for
exercising your privacy rights.
To exercise these rights, email us at [email protected]. We will respond within 45 days.
7. Children's Privacy
Our products are designed for students and adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information
from children under the age of 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information,
please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
8. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data — including our
custom backend infrastructure, HTTPS encryption in transit, and access controls. However, no
system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated"
date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the
updated policy.
